Women of Joy

Next meeting: Thursday, October 19, 10 a.m.

This group of women enjoys faith-based discussions from chapters of the book, The Gift of Years. We meet the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month at 10 a.m. in the Youth Room. Any woman is invited to join us! The last meeting focused on the chapter on dreams and Jan Harken’s leadership produced thought-provoking comments. On Thursday, October 19, we will discuss “Appreciation,” with Diane Abell as our leader. For questions contact Dotta Hassman.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Domestic Violence Awareness Month is observed nation-wide to raise awareness and educate our community about domestic violence. Nationwide, one in four women will experience intimate partner violence in her lifetime. Two out of three children are exposed to violence. As a church, let’s do our part to stand united against violence, as well as support survivors and victims.

On Wednesday, October 25 from 6 – 7 PM, you can hear an incredible journey of a survivor. Jan will share her mother’s painful story of domestic violence as well as her own child victimization experiences. Jan defines herself as a survivor & feels that her life passion is to speak out about violence in homes. Jan will share how faith has played a big part in her life story. Join the 10/25 Heartland Dynamic Discussion to be educated, touched & inspired.

Fourth Annual Trunk or Treat

October 27th at 6:45 p.m.

What can you do to make it a success?
Bring your car and decorate your trunk! If you can’t decorate a trunk you can donate candy!
How it Works:
We will start parking cars at 6:15 with time for you to finish decorating. There will be activities in the community center to keep the kids busy while we safely park cars. We are looking for volunteers to decorate your own trunk. One parent will stay at the car while the other walks around with your child from car to car to get their yummy treats.
Friends and family are welcome to decorate their trunk and participate. The more cars the better! We will vote on the best trunk for a prize.
(Decorations of the trunk and treats are to be provided by the owner of the car.)

Heartland Book Club

We invite everyone to attend. Feel free to come each month or when a book sounds interesting. Bring a snack to share and join in the discussion. Generally books are loaned from local libraries, so they don’t need purchased in order to participate.
Books & Hosts for the month:
October – The Bright Side of Disaster by Katherine Center – Hosted by LuAnn Smith
November – A Year by the Sea by Joan Anderson – Hosted by Dotta Hassman
December – A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman – Hosted by Sharon Glenn
