Heartland Dynamic Discussions: Need For Affordable Housing

Wednesday, February 28, 6:00 p.m.

We often hear that Des Moines has one of the best quality of life ratings in the country. While this can be true for middle class workers and their families, it obscures the deepening problems that many low-income families in the area face. The number of low income families unable to find or be placed in affordable housing in Des Moines is a growing problem.

Join us on February 28th, at 6:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary, as the Local Mission Committee has invited Roberta Victor, Director of CROSS Ministries, to discuss the need for affordable housing. She hears stories each day of people struggling to survive on low income salaries. What can we do to make a difference in our community regarding this serious housing crisis?

somThe Song of Mark

Sunday, March 25, 10:00 a.m.

Palm/Passion Sunday is always noteworthy as a commemoration of both Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem and his passion and death. This year, on March 25 we will have a special presentation of these parts of Mark’s Gospel in song at the 10am Service.
Some of Heartland’s high school students, together with high schoolers from other churches, will present an excerpt of Marty Haugen’s musical Song of Mark. Seeing this dramatic showing of key moments in Jesus’ last week can bring home the meaning of what he faced, endured, and ultimately overcame. Don’t miss this great opportunity to walk by Jesus’ side to begin our Holy Week!
